Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and United Arab Emirates Study CASA Rail Route
Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates agreed to study CASA together. CASA is a planned rail route through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. It should give the route access to Pakistan's sea ports. Transport ministry representatives from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan signed a cooperation memorandum. Representatives from the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure also signed it.
The project aims to link Central Asia and South Asia more strongly. It also aims to support international freight, trade, logistics and investment work. The parties plan technical and economic studies, plus an analytical review. They will also study if needed railway lines and related facilities should be built.
A joint working group is planned. It will study the project's technical, economic and financial parts in detail. The participants also discussed forming the group and coordinating next steps.
In July 2025, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan made an agreement. They agreed to prepare a study on the costs and benefits of a railway through Afghanistan. The three-country agreement was signed in Kabul. Reports say the project joins existing rail lines and transit strengths in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. They add UAE experience in funding and delivering major infrastructure and logistics projects.
